Letter from the Denver Chapter President, Amanda Adams
Hello WIM! Just a few weeks ago I had the absolute pleasure of representing WIM at our sponsored hole at the Colorado SME Golf Tournament. One of the activities that I missed the most in 2020 was in-person networking. I love the chance to meet new contacts, hand out business cards, and most importantly – share our WIM story with the wider industry. The theme of the 2021 Annual conference is “Changing the Face of Mining” so we had a little fun with a photo booth where the golfers could “change their face” with bunny ears, silly glasses and even a feather boa! We had a great time, and I am so glad that Kelly Ward and Carrie Middleton were able to join me!

It was great to meet some new contacts and see some old friends. We are always on the lookout for companies who want to host a monthly meeting, and we are hoping to start regular gatherings in September (depending on COVID of course). If you or your company are interested in hosting a 2021/2022 WIM Denver monthly meeting, please contact me! I was excited to see an encouraging number of women participating in the SME golf tournament, it was great to make those connections. It was also great to answer some WIM FAQs for the guys participating.
Here are some frequently asked questions, in case you are interested in getting more involved with WIM:
Q: How can my company get involved?
A: Its easy! We are looking for monthly meeting sponsors and speakers. You can tell us about a cool project your company has worked on, or present a topic related to inclusion and diversity or professional development. We ask that sponsors provide a location and food and drink for the meeting.
Q: How can the women at my company become members?
A: Its easy! Just join on our Chapter’s Page on the website.
Q: It would be great if men could join too…
A: They can! We would love for male allies to get involved! Just check out the website.
Q: Seriously?
A: Yes, seriously! Anyone can become a member!
Q: What else does WIM do?
A: In addition to supporting networking and professional development in the mining industry we also support educational outreach about the importance of mining and minerals. Our next event will be Scout Days at Dinosaur Ridge in October. Bring your family, or volunteer to sit at the WIM booth!
Cheers,
