The National Mining Hall of Fame & Museum will be opening a new temporary exhibit in March 2022, themed “influential women in the mining industry“. Women in Mining (WIM) would like to support the museum in meeting their fundraising goal of $20,000 for the upcoming exhibit, to make it as encompassing as possible.
The goal is to highlight roughly 10-12 women from various mining fields with a mix of historical and contemporary examples, such as women prospectors, women mine owners, blue collar women supporting their families, underground miners, and potentially women in the “100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining” list created by Women in Mining (UK).
The mission is to “tell the story of mining, its people, its importance to the American public, and to society’s sustainability.” The NMHFM has roughly 25,000 visitors each year from all fifty states and numerous countries, and is a significant visitor draw to this community. The museum has roughly 25,000 sq. ft. of exhibit space with over 60 exhibits. This includes exhibits highlighting the historic Matchless Mine in Leadville, the future of mining in space, the “World of Molybdenum” exhibit, two walk though underground mines, a Gold Room, the National Mining Hall of Fame, and many others.
