For Members Seeking Career Development Opportunities
WIM USA provides scholarship opportunities to members and students pursuing a career in mining through our national organization and various chapters. The information on this page is updated when new scholarship opportunities are available. Check back often!
Nevada Scholarships Available
The Nevada Chapter is now offering two (2) $2,000 Dan Harper Scholarships and two (2) $1,000 High School Scholarships!
Apply today - the deadline for both scholarships is April 15, 2024.
Dan Harper Scholarships
WIM Nevada will provide a $2,000 Scholarship to two (2) University of Nevada Students majoring in Mining Engineering, Geological Sciences and Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or Chemical Engineering with an interest in working in the mining field.
Qualifications
- Junior (or higher) enrolled in one of the above disciplines
- Nevada Resident (preference will be given to Nevada High School graduates)
- United States of America Citizen
- Maintain a 2.75 GPA
- Preference may be given to Women in Mining members, supporters, or family members.
Requirements
Along with the application form, applicant will provide a letter including the following:
- Career Goals
- Honors Received
- Activities (on and off campus)
- Reason for Scholarship Application
- Current or Previous Employment (full or part-time)
High School Scholarships
Additionally, the Nevada Chapter has historically provided two (2) High School Scholarships valued at $1,000 each.
Qualifications
- US Resident and Nevada Resident.
- Graduating High School senior.
- Grade point average of at least 2.75; and must be maintained in order to maintain the scholarship.
- Degree of need for financial assistance is a high priority, please explain details of need.
- Must be enrolled in college or trade school with a minimum of 9 credits.
- Choice of future study shall be mining related.
- Preference may be given to Women in Mining family members or supporters.
Requirements
Along with the application form, applicant will provide a letter including the following:
- Letter of recommendation from a community leader (not to include teacher, school counselor).
- Letter of intent to include: your reason for applying for this scholarship, your financial need, other scholarships received or you have applied for, what you know of Women in Mining (how did you hear about Women in Mining), honors received, activities on and off campus including community volunteer participation, and any employment.
