Opportunities for Students Seeking Careers in Mining
WIM USA provides scholarship opportunities to students pursuing a career in mining through our various chapters. The information on this page is updated when new scholarship opportunities are available. Check back often!
Chapter Scholarships Available
The Arizona Chapter of Women in Mining (WIMAZ) is excited to offer Scholarship Opportunities to Arizona college students for the 2022/2023 academic year.
Scholarship applications will be accepted through June 30, 2022.
SCHOLARSHIP QUALIFICATIONS
- Applicants must be living in Arizona
- Applicants must be currently enrolled in a two or four-year college, and intend to earn a degree from an Arizona school.
- Applicant grades must be in good standing
* All undergraduate and graduate students attending Arizona public universities are eligible. Priority will be given to applicants that show a demonstrated interest in pursuing mining-related careers and in advancing the role of women and other minorities in the mineral resources industry.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN THE APPLICATION
The scholarship application requires relevant personal details and contact information, but there are a few things that you may need to prepare before starting the application process:
- Your resume (PDF).
- Transcripts* (PDF – unofficial).
- One reference
- Ample time. The application requires that you answer three essay questions.

Applicants are encouraged to include relevant professional experience, volunteer efforts, extracurricular activities, participation in professional organizations, and personal anecdotes (e.g. family, community, personal connection to the mining industry) in their essay responses and/or resume submission.
The California Chapter offers annual competitive scholarships for students committed to obtaining an education related to mining, geology, engineering, or environmental studies.
Scholarship applicants are at least a senior in high school or currently enrolled full time in college.
Applications must be received by March 15, 2023
SCHOLARSHIP QUALIFICATIONS
- Applicants must be at least a senior in high school or currently enrolled full-time in college.
- Applicants must maintain a 3.0 or higher GPA.
- Scholarship finalists will be required to provide proof of full-time enrollment in secondary education prior to receiving the award.
The scholarship grant shall be applied toward the cost of tuition and/or course expenses as selected by the recipient. The amount must not exceed the scholarship grant.

Additional Information
All information must be received by the scholarship committee no later than the established deadline. WIM California’s Scholarship Committee will review all completed applications, current transcripts (unofficial transcripts are acceptable, however at the discretion of WIM official transcripts might be requested), and scholarship essays. The Scholarship Committee will select recipients and present their decision to the WIM Board of Directors. Following the Board’s approval, applicants will be notified of the Scholarship Committee’s decision (please ensure an email address is provided on application).
Scholarships are not automatically renewed, but each recipient could be considered for subsequent awards if he/she provides evidence of continued interest in mining, geology, engineering or environmental studies with emphasis in science and/or related fields. Recipient must be in good standing in a program related to a degree. Prior scholarship recipients must reapply annually for consideration.
This scholarship is for California Residents only, applicants must be a U.S. Citizen, and may attend a College or University outside California. The California Chapter of WIM is an equal opportunity organization.
APPLICANTS PLEASE NOTE – You have the ultimate responsibility to ensure that the scholarship application, all forms and transcripts, are received by the California Chapter representative on or before the established (postmarks by this date are accepted).
WIM Denver “Leadership Lab” Professional Development Scholarship
WIM Denver has Professional Development scholarships available for the “Leadership Lab” series starting in January 2022. Through Brooks & Nelson, Cultivage has offered special pricing for the Leadership Lab series of only $1,500 per person. Please book a ticket from the calendar event if you would like to book a regular registration and get a guaranteed spot.
The scholarship covers $1,250 of the admission price, costing you only $250 for the entire course.
The scholarships are meant for WIM Denver members and are intended for professionals whose company does not provide reimbursement for professional development training. It does not matter where you are in your career; a variety of professional levels will provide for richer content.

You will be contacted early January if you have been selected. If your application was not selected, you will have another opportunity when the summer spring/summer series is available.
WIM NV has supported the Nevada mining industry by providing yearly scholarships for over 3 decades.
Scholarship applications are no longer being accepted.
COLLEGE SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP
Through the years, we have awarded more than $75,000 in total to Nevada college students majoring in Mining Engineering, Geological Sciences and Engineering, and Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering. The Dan Harper Memorial Scholarship is payable at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters.
Requirements for the Dan Harper Memorial Scholarship:
- Transcripts (unofficial is allowed)
- University of Nevada student majoring in Mining Engineering, Geological Sciences and Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or Chemical Engineering with an interest in working in the mining field.
- Junior (or higher) enrolled in one of the above disciplines.
- Nevada Resident (preference will be given to Nevada High School graduates)
- Must be a citizen of the USA
- GPA of 2.75 or higher
- Along with the application, the applicant must provide a letter including career goals, activities (on and off campus), current or previous full or part-time employment, honors received, and the reason for scholarship application.
COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP
We offer a high school scholarships once a year to students hoping to study a mining related field in the future. To see a list of past recipients, take a look at our scholarship history.
Requirements:
- Nevada Resident
- High School graduate with a GPA of 2.75 or higher, enrolled in a college or trade school with a minimum of 9 credits.
- Degree of need for financial assistance is a high priority (explanation required).
- Choice of future study shall be mining related.
- Letter of recommendation from a community leader (not to include teacher, school counselor).
- Letter of intent to include: your reason for applying for this scholarship, your financial need, other
scholarships received or you have applied for, what you know of Women in Mining (how did you hear
about Women in Mining), honor received, activities on and off campus including community volunteer
participation, any employment.
The window for these scholarships has closed April 15, 2022.
The WIM USA Utah Chapter awards a scholarship for the first year of college to encourage the next generation of participants in the mining and minerals industry.

What this Scholarship provided…
The awarded applicants received a $500 scholarship for the 2022 fall semester.
