50th Anniversary Gala
Hello and welcome to our repository commemorating our Women In Mining 50th Anniversary Gala held on February 24, 2023! As Denver is the birthplace of WIM, we as the Denver Chapter were thrilled and honored to put on such a special event and host one heck of a party!Â
As shared during the gala program, our story starts in 1972 when three women sought to educate the public about the great jobs the mining industry could provide and create a community for other women of the industry to band together; by January 1973, Women In Mining was an official nonprofit organization with 15 charter members. The vision of these women led to other chapters starting all over the United States and by the time a decade had passed a national structure, WIM USA, had been established. And now, 50 years after those grassroots beginnings in our beloved city of Denver, there are more than 70 recognized WIM organizations worldwide with over 12,000 members – women and our allies!!
We’ve created this space to share the presentations of our fabulous keynote speakers, Lois Brooks and Dr. Stacy Hope, as well as video snippets from our program, photos and videos of our guests, and highlight our sponsors that helped make the evening a great success. All in all we had 420 attendees coming from at least 7 countries and 47 generous sponsoring companies. We also owe a special thanks to the Denver Museum of Nature & Science for having such a fantastic space for our event. And to you reading this, thank you for continuing to celebrate this milestone with us by looking through the site, and cheers to the next 50 years and beyond!
